Substance Use Disorders services offered in Phoenix, AZ

You can detox from a substance use disorder and stay at home throughout your treatment when you seek help from Peak Mental Health. Your psychiatric professional prescribes medications that stop cravings and withdrawal symptoms, monitors your progress, and provides therapy that supports your emotional and social health throughout your recovery.

Addictive substances trigger the release of brain chemicals that ease pain, improve your mood, and make you feel good. As you keep using these substances, whether alcohol, opioids, stimulants, or others, they change nerve communication in your brain.

These brain changes cause uncontrollable cravings for the substance. Eventually, your brain develops a tolerance to the amount you typically use, and then you need to take more to stop the cravings and get the same pleasurable results.

At this point, you experience withdrawal symptoms if you try to stop using the substance. That’s a sure sign you’ve developed a dependency. With ongoing substance use, dependency causes changes in your behavior.

In addition to cravings and withdrawal symptoms, once you develop a dependency, you may:

  • Stop going to work or school
  • Give up activities you enjoy (to use drugs or alcohol)
  • Spend excessive time using or recovering
  • Need to use your substance in the morning
  • Stop seeing family and friends (often to hide your substance use)
  • Keep using despite negative consequences (like getting sick or missing work)
  • Engage in risky or illegal things to obtain drugs

Examples of risky or illegal behaviors include writing bad checks, stealing, and sharing needles.

We provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT), an outpatient program that combines medication with therapy to support your detox and recovery.

When you need treatment for an opioid use disorder, Your psychiatric professional prescribes Suboxone® or another type of buprenorphine. This medication stops cravings, prevents withdrawal, and normalizes your brain chemistry.

You take your first treatment in the office, allowing us to make sure you’re on the right dose for your detox. Then you keep taking daily doses at home, with regular in-office follow-up visits.

After you finish detoxing, you keep taking a maintenance dose of medication while starting therapy. Therapy builds the foundation for a long-lasting recovery.

During therapy, you learn about the stressors that tempt you to use drugs or alcohol and how to manage them. Therapy also provides ongoing support for all aspects of your life, whether you need to learn social skills, get help for anxiety, or gain other life skills you may need to support your recovery.
